Favourite First Doctor moment 2: The Doctor falls in love…and gets engaged…accidentally.

The Doctor and Cameca have a lovely relationship full of warmth, respect and subtlety. The two best reactions are when 1. The Doctor drinks the cocoa and realises this means he has proposed and… 2. Ian’s reaction when the Doctor tells him he is engaged. Ian laughs and says congratulations, its so cute.

And leaving Cameca behind is dealt with so tenderly. She simply knows that he has to go and doesn’t question him. He can’t even turn to look at her. So no one is allowed to say that Classic Who doesn’t do romance and emotion, this is just one of many.
